Contest: Win Brooks Best-Selling Shoes
What’s the best possible way to end 2011 and kick off 2012? With a sweet new pair of running shoes, of course.
We’ve partnered with running shoes expert Brooks to bring you a very spectacular giveaway. Up for grabs is its No. 1 selling shoe, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS. In its twelfth iteration, the new Adrenaline is an attempt to perfect greatness.
Available in January, the stability shoe features a three density midsole with triple the support. As you roll through your gait cycle, the material is designed to become progressively more firm. This offers a superior amount of support that feels so natural you probably won’t even notice it.
Fans of the Adrenaline line will find a few differences in the new edition; however the fit and feel will remain the same. The latest style includes more mesh to increase the breathability, a friction-resistant heel, a crash pad that encompasses more strides and Flextra technology to optimize forefoot flex. It will be offered in six colors (including a black Gore-Tex version that is already available) and four different widths.

I have two running goals for 2012. First, I’d love to set a new PR for my half marathon. I just ran my first half this past October and I’m already hooked. I would like to get close to 2 hours time…that would be awesome! Secondly, I’d like to pick my first marathon to run. I’ve already decided that running a full will be my next challenge…so I’ll need to pick one, and get set with training!

My personal goal is to complete 1000 miles in 2012. I am going to keep track of each mile staring January 1 and continue to monitor my progress until I reach my goal. I love running because of the freedom it affords and the opportunities it provides right outside of your doorstep :0)
Marian
My goal is to continue to run and enjoy running without injury. I ran my first marathon last year and had significant problems with my knees. I have slowly built up to 5 miles since then and decided to try for a half marathon in March. If that goes well, I would like to try a duathlon in May. My ultimate goal for this year is to run a marathon with my husband next fall. Of course, the main goal through it all is to listen to my body and be grateful to do whatever it is I can with running, whether it be a 5k or a marathon, I am grateful to be able to run.
Jen
I want to get a PR in the Indianapolis Mini-Marathon in May, as well as run another marathon before the end of 2012. Running more than I’ve ever run during a winter before to work toward those goals!
Sharon
Recovering from a year-long illness. Starting from scratch.
Sarah
My goal for 2012 is to run like I used to. I do Track and Field and Cross Country, but I don’t run how I used to run. I used to run with my head up high… looking at something that nobody could possibly see… happiness. As a little kid, I ran fast because I wanted too and I loved the burn that you feel when your pushing yourself to a higher limit. My real goal is to feel the peace that comes from running while running because I felt like I could run forever when I used to. Another accomplishment would be too run as fast as I think I can because I have higher expectations for myself than some of my coaches do!

Every day is a goal to accomplish! I’m thankful that I even have the opportunity to say that. As a Stage IV throat cancer survivor (will be 4 years on 22 Jan 12), I count every day as a blessing and so when I wake each morning, I establish a goal to either run that day, to help someone in their running that day, coach someone in their running, or simply state how important it is to remain fit! As a member of the US Air Force, I often have opportunities to speak to the Airmen…just this month (Dec), I was able to share my cancer journey story with around 100 of them. My goal for that moment was to express to them how important running was to me. I shared that I have been running for 33 years now and if I hadn’t been fit athletically and spiritually during my cancer, I may not have made it as I had a 55% chance of survival. It was a close call as I lost over 40 lbs (150 lbs to 108 lbs) and the chemo and radiation kicked me hard, not to mention all the collateral damage from the surgery. But I must say that I believe God put in my heart this goal that I would run again. I remember the first run I tried after being laid up for so long…it was on grass as I love XC! After finishing 1.5 miles and just sat and cried…I was so humbled to just feel the sensation of running…my mind and body was overjoyed. As I speak the story of the journey, I often want the audience to understand how I felt then and how I feel now. I share with them that we must persevere always through commitment, dedication, and courage; but not only that, I want them to know how to do that, so I share how we serve through compassion, kindness, and love. I am thrilled when I see their eyes and know that their hearts have been touched. So, with that said, I have this goal to make every day a memory…the running IS the goal…the eternal is a gift and the prize!

My goal for 2012 is to get back to running full time. After being sidelined by injuries, I have cut back on the miles and the frequency. Over the past three years I have had problems with shin splints, IT Band Syndrome, and most recently Chronic Compartment Syndrome. I was determinined not to quit, even after going through the compartment pressure test and the surgery. After a successful and significant amount of physical therapy including gait analysis and surgery for the chronic compartment syndrome I am finally running pain free. However my goal is to increase the frequency of my training and my miles in 2012. I would like to run a 5K this spring and work up to an 8K by the end of the summer. I credit Brooks running shoes to have helped with my recovery and rehabilitation. I enjoy the support, stability, comfort, and durability of Brooks shoes.

Angela
My goal is to get moving again and do my best to get running despite all my setbacks, injuries, surgeries and people telling me I can’t do it. I certainly want to be smart about it but this is just something I want to get back into again. I really miss the whole atmosphere of race day and enjoy a fun, healthy activity with friends.
David H.
My main overarching goal will be to continue to build off the success of 2011 and coming back from an injury and making 2012 the best year ever. Cliche as it sounds, it’s true. That includes continuing to get smarter, stronger and faster, and setting a PR in the half marathon in March, and then setting my sites on new races the rest of the year to expand my horizons.
Judi Greer Lahay
Just hoping if I’m lucky enough to win, this will help me to run better!! Only have power walked before.

I’ve not been a fan of running but so many of my friends enjoy it so I’ve been trying to embrace it. My goal is to implement more stretches of running into my walks and push myself to go further. A new pair of running shoes would be wonderful since mine have seen better days!

My goal is to be able to run a 5k by Summer. That is humbling to say, as I was a marathoner before 4 years of injuries & surgeries sidelined me. I had my ankle basically reconstructed in July & am up to walking a mile consistently. My short term goal is to work up to actually running a 5k again.
